What Kind of Imprint Do You Leave?
What kind of imprint do you leave — on others, in a room, after a meeting or at the end of a family dinner?
Whether you realize it or not, you leave a ripple wherever you go. And if you’re a leader or a parent (or both), that ripple becomes a wave.
Oprah once said, “You are responsible for your own energy and the energy that you bring into any space.”
That quote has stuck with me for years. It’s become a guiding principle as I’ve grown more intentional about my presence and influence.
This morning during yoga, I noticed the imprint my foot left on the mat. It was subtle — there for a moment, then gone. My mat is designed to expand and return to its original shape. But the visual got me thinking …
The imprint we leave on others? That lasts much longer.
I work with leaders who are learning to elevate their presence — not just for themselves, but for everyone around them. Because how you show up matters. Immensely.
One person’s energy can either spark creativity, connection and trust — or completely shut it down. We’ve all felt it: the unspoken tension when someone walks into a room with a heavy, negative presence. No words needed — you just feel it. And that feeling lingers.
When people are left reeling from that kind of energy, they aren’t operating at their best. It disrupts focus, lowers morale and makes even the most capable teams underperform.
And here’s the truth: most people don’t intend to bring negativity into a room. They simply haven’t cultivated the habit of intentional presence.
People often tell me, “You bring such vibrant, positive energy.”
That doesn’t happen by chance. It starts with how I set my tone for the day — physically, mentally and emotionally. I do a routine each morning through moving my body, self-reflection and deciding how I want to show up that day (and interact with others).
Because how you start your day shapes how you show up in it.
But it doesn’t stop there.
Before every meeting, coaching session or family moment, I pause. Even if just for a minute. I clear out mental clutter, reconnect with my desired outcome and reset my energy. This helps me bring my best into the moment — rather than distraction or stress.
Coaching session? That calls for curiosity, empathy and empowerment.
Adventure with my 8-year-old son? That calls for playfulness, presence and joy.
It might sound like a lot of effort, but with time, this level of intention becomes a habit. It happens automatically and with ease. And that habit creates massive positive ripple effects.
Since I began showing up with greater presence and clarity, I’ve seen every relationship in my life improve — personally and professionally. My work has become more impactful, my business has grown, and my daily joy has expanded.
